We are blessed with many good commentaries to help you understand the Scriptures. I would like to share some insight that I have gained by researching a commentary. I do not use a set. I select individual commentaries. When you buy individual commentaries you are not limited to one perspective. I have found that individual volumes are more current than sets.

The twentieth century produced more Bible translations than in any other period of time. These different translations of the Bible exist due to the changes in the languages. Did you ever try to read something written in your language that is 100 years old? How about something written 200 years ago. Try going back in time and read something 400 or even 500 years ago. It is likely you will not completely understand the text of what you are trying to read.

Here, the meaning of unique is “having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable: Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.” Using the word unique in this respect fully implies that it is not the only book written about gods’ dealings with mankind, rather it is a book that describes Gods’ history of dealing with man. Think of it in this manner: I was working in my garden yesterday and I discovered a log in which termites had taken up as their home.

The question of what to read in the Bible is as important as to how to read the Bible. If and/or since you probably are a young Christian, young in physical age and young in the length of time you have made Jesus Lord of your life, the “what” question has bearing on your life? The biggest spiritual decisions of your life will be made though the impact of Bible reading.
