The Bible - understanding?

A fifteen year old young man went to church for the first time in a long long time. This time he did not have his mother at his side.  He was there because a classmate...
... who had led him to Christ told him he needed to learn much more about the Savior he just received. He told him that if he did not learn more, he would not grow as a Christian. After the opening prayer the pastor said, “Turn to Second Timothy five twelve”.

“Huh” thought the young convert as he turned to the first page of the Bible, which his friend had given him, and thumbed through Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Joshua and a' number of other books but could not find Timothy.

Turning to the table of contents he found second Timothy was on page 450 but when He found the page he was looking for, he was in the book of judges. Puzzled and a little embarrassed and getting behind in the service, again he turned to the table of contents and a light came on in his head.

He discovered there were two basic sections of the Bible and Second Timothy was in the second. Of course, by the time the young man had found the text the pastor was finished with his sermon, He felt like the classical “Duh”.

Ever feel like that?  Get discouraged? Don’t.  Don't be discouraged.  If the truth be known, all of us starting out in the Christian world have felt like that.  Unless you are a genius!

Of course the young man desired to know his baby faith and the Bible better. From small beginning great men of the Lord have been born. In one case such a young man because world known and may have led over one million people to faith in Christ. He even founded a Bible Institute that today still trains many young people annually in the Word of God. His name is Dwight L. Moody.  Think about this: who is responsible for leading Billy Graham to Christ?

Dwight L. Moody traces the beginning of his Christian life to his conversation with Edward Kimball.

J. Wilbur Chapman was converted while a student at Lake Forest College in the late 1870s, he attended a Moody meeting in Chicago and after the service received personal counseling from Moody that helped him to receive certainty of his (Chapman's) salvation. Later Chapman became a friend and co-worker of Moody's.

Billy Sunday worked for Chapman for a brief time as an assistant, helping to organize his evangelistic meetings, but Sunday himself was converted at a street corner meeting held by the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago.

Mordecai Ham was converted at men’s prayer and fellowship group, originally known as the Billy Sunday Layman's Evangelistic Club and later renamed as Charlotte Businessmen's Club (CBMC) This group was later instrumental in inviting Ham to Charlotte for his 1934 meetings.

Who failed to lead Hitler to Christ when the chance came about?  Do you know anyone who is not saved?  What have you done about it?

These men have influenced Christianity.  But they would never have been an influence at all if they had not been willing to be led and willing to study the Word of God for themselves.

No one knows what methods these men used to study the Bible. They may not have much formal education and the majority of their study was done on their own. If you intend to become a yielded and therefore an effective witness for your faith, you must be willing to spend time in the word. You must be willing to study the Bible for yourself.

If the truth be known, success or failure in the Christian life is dependent on:

1. how well you know the Bible.  Has it become “mind stored”.

2. How obedient you are to it. Are you living up to what you know?    The battle is in the head.  The battle is for the mind.  The battle takes place no- where else.

Yes, you can go to heaven knowing very little; "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John. 3:16)

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

If you're ever going to be a happy, successful Christian it will be because your are regularly feeding on the Word of God.  This takes time and much effort.  Time and effort equals work.

The more work at it the faster and better you will grow. You will get out of it what you put into it.  Simple as that.  IF you believe it, really believe the message, and then you will work at obtaining the full benefits of it.  You will find it is well worth the price you are called on to pay.

Jesus Christ gave this formula for success when He said, lf ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them'' (John 13: 17). This means that happiness in spiritual things is the result of knowing and doing the will of God as God has revealed it in the Bible thru Jesus. A Large problem with many Christians is they have not spent time or effort in learning the principles of the Bible.  Result?  They do not  know what is expected of them. Result? They do not enjoy all the blessings of the Christian life.

THE BIBLE IS YOUR BOOK.  IT WAS WRITTEN PERSONALY FOR YOU!

“But I don’t understand the Bible”, is frequently heard.  Most Christians have the idea they cannot understand the Bible. “It was written for someone else” It takes special study and a college degree”  “It was written for preachers and the teachers of the preachers” All these people do is listen to people of whom they will have the proper “credentials” They will attend lectures and sermons or read books about the Bible, but spend very little time reading THE   Bible. In short they never study it for themselves.

The bible is your book, make it your own.  It was written for you. It was written for people just like you!  The Lord said I will write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you ... and because ye have known the Father'' (1 John 2: 12-13).Does this not mean that to be little children'' or brand new Christians can understand the Bible.

This means that the Bible is YOUR book!

Yes you may not get to the depths of Biblical the way scholars might.  There may be things you do not understand at first.  The operative word here is “may”.  When studying the Bible remember you have the greatest teacher of all, The Holy Spirit. You will find there is far more in the Scripture you can understand and than what you cannot.

Once you really understand that you can study the Bible for all it’s worth Once the will give you a whole new outlook in life and on spiritual things. Your Christian life will take on new dimension. New Christians. And old Christians alike whom had never been very successful in the Christian experience develop a new life they never dreamed of. It all comes about by studying the Bible on their own.

Warning!  There is no easy way to make the Bible your own.  No shortcuts.

It takes the hardest kind of work, and it will be well worth it.  Through your own efforts, you will develop working knowledge of the Bible that will enrich your spiritual life.   More importantly, it will enable you serve Jesus Christ effectly.

This suggestion here.  Study the Bible for 20 minutes a day. As you go on you won’t limit yourself to 20 minutes.  You can master almost anything in 20 minutes a day if you do it long enough. If you take 20 minutes A DAY FOR READING, another 20 minutes a day for study and some spare moments for learning. But by the end of 2 years you will have accomplished the following:

1. Read the Bible through.

2. Study will enable  you to  learn the principles, promises and commands made for you.

3.  If you follow through with this study plan the key books will be read several times over.

4.  Another advantage of this or any systemized study  is that you will have  memorized several key verses.

5.As a result of this study plan,  the most important chapters will be studied as units

6.  Because of your effort spent in study,  you will have developed a working knowledge of the Bible. It will be in your head, your mind.

7. Your study of the Bible will become a life time habit. This will enrich your entire life.

Of course you should/must regularly attend a Bible teaching church.  One where  reading, studying, learning and thinking in your approach in Bible the Bible will truly become yours the results will prove to you that the time you invested was/is well worth it.

Please read on and discover now to accomplish these things.
